Terra Incognita by Juliette Lewis

This is probably the most surprising record i have bought in the last couple of weeks. It wasn't so much i was expecting a bad record it was just that i only really bought it because i am what is commonly referred to as a completest who must have every possible major release from artists i really dig. I am referring to the very talented mildy weird Omar Rodriguez Lopez.

This guy in my opinion is one of my favourite artists. He is the leader and the driving force behind The Mars Volta as well as releasing and producing no less that 30 records since1996. This man is prolific and does not fuck around. So why would he choose to hook up with a artist like Juliette Lewis... For this reviewer i have no idea, i know nothing about Juliette Lewis music career other than the fact the she was in a band called Juliette and the licks and she was a famous movie star who once fucked Brad Pitt. Its all very well if that is what you want to hang your hat on but surely there is more to this girl than that. To be fair though i shouldn't give her shit though because has starred in a Martin Scorcese picture and i haven't...

All in all i really enjoyed this record. Its not about to change the was i listen to music but i gotta say it is fun. Juliette in my opinion in channelling Patti Smith with PJ Harvey and maybe even a touch of Janis Jopliin in there. Her lyrics seem fairly honest but she has a dirty fucked up voice that could be gratin and annoying for some but after a while i liked it. The music on the other hand is a entirely different beast. Omar is such a fine craftsman who makes great music. The backing band is 2 guys out of the Mars Volta and they kick major ass. They always do. The drummer Thomas Pridgeon sounds like he has 8 arms, he is fucking crazy and the other guy on the album is Marcel Rodriguez Lopez ( omars brother) who is always there just doing the business holding it all together. I would not necessarily call this album weird but parts of it definitely are. In saying that though there are moments that are really straight and pop like with a rock edge. Its a curious listen that is not going to change your life but will keep you occupied and maybe even slightly surprised by the former Mallory Knox....

Thanks,
Nathan

Health - Get Color

Health - Get Color

I Bought this record the other day knowing full well what i was in for. Health had brought out a self titled record previously that was loud, abrasive and full of intent but unfortunately fell a bit short of the mark. There was obviously something there though, these guys could play and even though they may of been fairly difficult to penetrate from a casual listening experience i could still accept that there was something there. Health were going for greatness and obviously wanted to show everyone what they were made of. I will try to explain what these guys sound like but as usual i will leave a myspace link for people to check it out for themselves. I think they are Electronic Avant Garde Rock with a fuck off punk edge. Now if that is your cup of tea then check it out by all means and go out and buy these records and promote interesting music.

As far as the new record goes i would have to say that once again it fell a little short, first of all the album is short. It only goes for 32 minutes and is 9 songs long. That means that at some point in the process of making this album there would of been a meeting a some point to try and eliminate songs to bring the album down to a more manageable length. I don't normally have a problem with shorter records but this is just ridiculous. The songs are loud and aggressive but also very experimental. This band could be great though which from my point of view is the most disappointing thing of all. I really hope that at some point in there career they will stop being so shocking and intense and just right good music. Experimental music doesn't always to have to be weird and at the end of the day good music always shines through. Im not sure that Get Color is good music but one thing i will say is that it is never boring.

Hollywood Stupidity

Just how fucking stupid is Hollywood. I can believe that they are rebooting a franchise that just got rebooted. Fucking retards.

A few hours after official word came down about Disney acquiring Marvel came word today that Fox is gearing up its rumored reboot of the "Fantastic Four" film franchise says Variety.
Tim Story directed the two previous live-action films in 2005 and 2007, both of which suffered a lot of negative criticism but made around $300 million each at the worldwide box-office.
Scribe Akiva Goldsman ("A Beautiful Mind," "Batman and Robin") has been hired to oversee the reboot as producer while Michael Green (TV's "Heroes," the upcoming "Green Lantern") will pen the script.
Why is this happening? Rights retention is the best guess. Fox has a licensing agreement from Marvel and thus controls the "Fantastic Four" movie franchise in perpetuity - under the condition that it continues making the films.
That motivation is not unheard of, a similar situation took place with 2002's "Queen of the Damned" which was greenlit to ensure Warner Bros. retained the film rights to Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles book series.
Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba, Chris Evans, Michael Chiklis and Julian McMahon starred in the previous two films, though with deals just made it's unsure if they'll return. If the project is a reboot however it seems unlikely.
