Kluster 1970 - 1971
I so wanted to like this more than i actually did. If anything i would say that has put into the context the place of avant garde music and more specifically drone music. Nothing any of the drone bands these days are doing anything remotely new. This was made in 1970 and is completely bizarre and difficult to listen to. Kluster is the band that was there right at the start of the Krautrock movement, these guys were sitting there next to Kratwerk being inspired my the music concrete experiments in the 50s. Kluster evolved to being Cluster as there later incarnation when Conrad Schnitzler was kicked out of the band in 1971 and Brian Eno joied in 1975. Rodelius and Moebies both then went on to form and be apart of some of the leading Krautrock bands of there day(Harmonia, Cluster and Moebious and Plank to name a few ).
These Kluster cds are more experiments in Sound and technique than in actual music. To the untrained ear it could be perceived as noise. I was ultimately disappointed with this record as i had such high hopes in particular for Rodelius and Moebious who were the nucleus of harmonia who made such classic records as Deluxe and Musik von Harmonia. let me put it this was 3 albums, 6 Tracks and not much melody in sight. I am probably sounding like i didt like it that much but i do enjoy curiosity pieces. I mean i am the sucker who bought Mort Garsons 'Wozard of Iz' Last week, ridiculous but i will get to that later. If you are interested in the origins of Krautrock check this out but if it is not your scene stay well away.
Peace
Nathan
